DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) Tablet additives glucose [50-99-7], sucrose [57-50-1], and lactose [63-42-3] reduced the caffeine [58-08-2], theobromine [83-67-0], and theophylline [58-55-9] uptake in rat small intestine by 30-40%, whereas glycocol [56-40-6], KH2PO4, basic MgCO3, mannitol [69-65-8], NaHCO3 and NaCl had no significant effect. Na CM-cellulose [9004-32-4], poly(vinylpyrrolidinone) [9003-39-8], and poly(vinyl alc.) [9002-89-5] reduced the uptake rate of caffeine, theobromine, theophylline, codeine [76-57-3], papaverine-HCl [61-25-6], salsolidine-HCl [883-87-4], quinine-HCl [7549-43-1] and phenobarbital [50-06-6] by 30-50%. Gelatin reduced the uptake slightly and starch [9005-25-8] had no effect on the uptake of either the alkaloids or phenobarbital. Tween 80 [9005-65-6] in submicellar concns. increased the phenobarbital uptake by 20-50% and that of caffeine, theobromine, theophylline, codeine and papaverine by 10-30%.
