Carbonic anhydrase activity of the reproductive tract tissues of aged male fowls and its relationship to semen production
Carbonic anhydrase activity of the reproductive tract tissues of aged male fowls and its relationship to semen production. Harris, G. C., Jr.; Goto, K. (Dep. 9001-03-0 are also occured in this study. Anim. Sci., Univ. Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR 72701, USA). J. Reprod. Fertil., 70(1), 25-30 (English) 1984. CODEN: JRPFA4. ISSN: 0022-4251. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 12 (Nonmammalian Biochemistry) A pos. correlation was found between the carbonic anhydrase (I) activity of the testes or ductus deferens and the vol. of semen, spermatozoa, or seminal plasma per collection. No relation was found between the I activity of tissue from the epididymal region and semen prodn. I.m. injection of a known I inhibitor, acetazolamide (>25 mg/kg), reduced the I activity in the testes, epididymides, and ductus deferens. As the dose was increased, the I activity of the reproductive tract tissues decreased in a linear manner. The redn. in I activity was assocd. with lower vols. of semen, spermatozoa, and seminal plasma per collection. .
