CLASS: IC: C08G059-42; C08G059-50; C08K007-02; C08L063-00. APPLICATION: JP 83-83314 12 May 1983. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Section cross-reference(s): 39 Heat-resistant composites with high elongation contain epoxy resins, epoxy resin adducts with liq., CO2H-terminated nitrile rubber, aminophenyl sulfones, and optionally nitrile rubber. Thus, Araldite MY 720 (I) [31305-94-9] 70, XD 7855 [9003-36-5] 15, Epikote 1001 [25068-38-6] 15, I-Hycar CTBN 1300 ′ 13 adduct 20, (p-H2NC6H4)2SO2 [80-08-0] 37, and BF3.EtNH2 0.3 part in acetone were coated on a carbon fabric and dried to give 40%-resin prepregs forming a composite with tensile strength 221 kg/mm2, elongation 1.66%, and interlayer shear strength 12.0 and 8.0 kg/mm2 at 23 and 100°, vs. 212, 1.35, 13.1, and 10.0, resp., using a com. epoxy resin.
Highly pure phenol novolak epoxy resins
Highly pure phenol novolak epoxy resins. (Toto Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Japan). Jpn. Kokai Tokkyo Koho JP 59025813 A2 9 Feb 1984 Showa, 6 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: C08G059-08. APPLICATION: JP 82-137130 5 Aug 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Pure epoxy resins are prepd. by dissolving phenol novolak resins in epichlorohydrin (I, 3-7 mol/equiv phenolic OH group), adding aq. alkali metal solns. (0.05-0.2 mol/equiv phenolic OH group) under N intermittently or continuously, keeping at 30-80°, and adding continuously aq. alkali metal hydroxide solns. (0.65-0.90 mol/equiv phenolic OH group, total of the 2 addns. 0.85-0.95 mol). This is followed by azeotropically boiling at 60-70°/100-200 torr, sepg. the condensate, recycling I, removing water to water content 1-2%, removing excess I, mixing with org. solvents, adding aq. alkali metal hydroxide solns. (0.03-0.13 equiv/equiv phenolic OH group), and heating at 60-90°. Thus, 178.5 parts cresol novolak resin (OH equiv 119) was dissolved in 693.8 parts I, purged with N, heated to 60°, and mixed continuously with 12.4 parts 48% aq. NaOH (reaction time 4 h), the pressure adjusted to 150 torr, and the mixt. 1310-73-2 and 9003-36-5 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. heated to 68°, combined continuously with 103.1 parts 48% aq. NaOH (reaction time 3 h) with removal of the water, returned to atm. pressure, heated to 110° to remove water, evapd. to remove I, and evacuated at 180°/10 torr. The resulting resin-NaCl compn. was mixed with 551.7 parts MIBK and 61.3 parts BuOH, treated with 28 parts 10% aq. NaOH at 80-85° for 2 h, and mixed with 300 parts water to sep. NaCl. The resin soln. was washed with 150 parts water, neutralized with H3PO4, washed with 150 parts water, evapd., and dried at 180°/5 torr to prep. 260.8 parts epoxy resin having epoxy equiv 196, hydrolyzable Cl content 0.01%, softening point 64°, and Na ion content <1 ppm. The yield was 48.2%, based on I. .
