DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 6 (General Biochemistry) A series of aldehyde dehydrogenase isoenzymes (EC 1.2.1.5) was purified from hepatomas induced in Sprague-Dawley rats by 2-acetylaminofluorene. The functional hepatoma-specific aldehyde dehydrogenase isoenzyme existed as 105,000-dalton dimers composed of 2 subunits of 53,000 daltons. Isoelec. points of the purified isozymes were 6.9-7.2. Antiserum to these purified hepatoma-specific aldehyde dehydrogenases was produced and the immunol. relations of these isoenzymes to their normal liver counterpart were studied. Results of Ouchterlony double diffusions, agar-gel immunoelectrophoresis, and polyacrylamide gel and agar immunoelectrophoresis indicated that antihepatoma aldehyde dehydrogenase antiserum crossreacts with normal liver aldehyde dehydrogenase. .
