DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) The effect of the plasticizers, triacetin [102-76-1], di-Et phthalate [84-66-2], and Citroflex A2 [77-89-4] on the break strength, elastic deformation strength, Young's modulus, and the percentage of elongation at break of HP 55 [9050-31-1] films was detd. A potentiation of the effects of triacetin and di-Et phthalate was obsd. when the concns. were around 30%. Citroflex A2 gave films with a low decrease in break strength and elastic deformation. Triacetin gave films with the highest elongation at break values and lower Young's modulus and elastic deformation strength than the other 2 plasticizers. In general, at 10% plasticizer concn., the break strength, elastic deformation strength, and Young's modulus are lower and the percentage of elongation at break higher for films contg. the plasticizers than for pure HP 55 films. It is recommended that higher concns. of the plasticizers should be used,although very high concns. might pose problems during drug diffusion.

These lotions when applied to the skin release the solvent by evapn., produce a film and release drugs into the skin for a long time. Thus, a medication for the removal of corn from the skin consists of salicylic acid [69-72-7] 10, lactic acid 3, polyoxyethylene lauryl ether [9002-92-0] 5, cellulose acetate phthalate 17.5, Me2CO 55, and ether 9.5 g. The film formed on the skin after application of this formulation is not disturbed by perspiration or bathing, and releases salicylic acid into the skin for a long period.
