DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) Castration of male rats increased the activities of lysosomal dipeptidyl peptidase II [76199-23-0] in the pars convoluta of the renal proximal tubule, dipeptidyl peptidase I [9032-68-2] in the distal and proximal tubules, and membrane-bound dipeptidyl peptidase IV [54249-88-6] in the glomeruli and brush border of the proximal tubule and decreased the activity of brush border-bound aminopeptidase M [9054-63-1]. Treatment with testosterone [58-22-0] normalized all peptidase activity in the kidneys of the castrates. In addn., the decrease in proteinuria obsd. after castration was also normalized by testosterone treatment. Apparently, protein catabolism in the proximal tubule and proteinuria are interrelated and are influenced by testosterone.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Rats received 0.1% Pb(OAc)2 in their drinking water for 3 or 6, at which time renal brush border fractions were obtained for measurement of enzyme activity. Renal brush border prepns. from Pb-exposed rats exhibited significant decreases in the activity of g-glutamyl transpeptidase [9046-27-9] and alanine aminopeptidase [9054-63-1] after 3 or 6 wk of treatment. There was an increase in the activity of alk. phosphatase [9001-78-9] after 3 wk of Pb exposure. The Na, K-activated ATPase [9000-83-3] activity and urokinase [9039-53-6] activity, located in the basolateral membrane fractions, were unchanged by Pb exposure, as were the protein and phospholipid contents of the brush border fractions. The results are compared to those following acute exposure to Pb or Cd.
