Alcohol abuse: detection of acetaldehyde adducts in rat urine following administration of erythrocytes labeled with radioactive acetaldehyde. Israel, Yedy; Tang, Bing K.; Tedesco, Joseph L.; Macdonald, Jeanette; Macdonald, Alain (Dep. Pharmacol., Univ. Toronto, Toronto, ON M5S 1A8, Can.). Prog. Clin. Biol. Res., 183(Aldehyde Adducts Alcohol.), 31-7 (English) 1985. CODEN: PCBRD2. ISSN: 0361-7742. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) 3H and 14C double-labeled AcH [75-07-0] adducts with blood erythrocyte components were prepd. by incubating 3H- and 14C-labeled EtOH [64-17-5] with alc. oxidase [9073-63-6] in whole blood from rats and centrifugation. The labeled erythrocytes were injected i.v. into rats and blood and urine collected for 21 days. Blood radioactivity decreased with a half-life of >7 days. A major chromatog. fraction after 7 days of MeOH-extd. urine of radiolabeled erythrocyte-treated rats was estd. to have a mol. wt. of 1200 and from its UV spectrum appeared to be a small AcH-peptide adduct. Use of these methods in detecting EtOH consumption by human alcs. was suggested.

Ethanol determination. (Fuji Electric Corporate Research and Development, Ltd.; Fuji Electric Co., Ltd., Japan). Jpn. Kokai Tokkyo Koho JP 60058096 A2 4 Apr 1985 Showa, 6 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: ICM: C12Q001-26. APPLICATION: JP 83-165604 8 Sep 1983. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 16 (Fermentation and Bioindustrial Chemistry) A quick and accurate EtOH [64-17-5] detn. method is developed. EtOH in a sample soln. is reacted with alc. oxidase [9073-63-6] and the H2O2 formed is detd. amperometrically by electrodes equipped with a selectively permeable high-mol.-wt. membrane. This method is useful in quality control of sake brewing.
