DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) The thermal and photochem. behavior of 2 structurally related hindered piperidine polymers [I (R = NHCMe2CH2CMe3) [71878-19-8] and I (R = morpholino) [90751-07-8]] is examd. in both low-d. polyethylene [9002-88-4] and polypropylene [9003-07-0] using IR and ESR spectroscopy. Both thermal and photochem. oxidative stabilities are related and the former has a marked influence on the latter process, resulting in formation of a more effective stabilizing nitroxyl/hydroxylamine intermediate. Minor differences in the structure of the I hindered piperidines also appears to dominate these effects and account for the superior results obtained with I (R = morpholino).

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 40 (Textiles) Of five hindered amine light stabilizers studied I [71878-19-8] and (II) [90751-07-8] gave the best results on multifilament polypropylene yarns because of their low volatility and good thermal stability necessary in fibers with high surface area and high processing temps. The oligomeric stabilizers had good compatibility with the fibers and good extn. resistance, thus showing good stability in laundering or dry cleaning. Other stabilizers included were HALS1 [52829-07-9], HALS2 [70198-29-7], and HALS3 [71878-19-8].
