Berenil was free from side effects; imiezol caused dyspnea and salivation in some dogs and fatal convulsions in one case.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Section cross-reference(s): 10 Diminazine aceturate [908-54-3], amprolium [121-25-5], and suramin [145-63-1] were studied in vitro and in vivo for their antimicrobial effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Corynebacterium ovis, Salmonella typhimurium and Candida albicans. Diminazine aceturate had an antimicrobial effect in all concns. used (6 ′ 10-6-8 ′ 10-5 mmol/L whereas C. albicans was only affected by a concn. of 8 ′ 10-5 mmol/L. Amprolium was effective at concn. 8 ′ 10-4 and 2 ′ 10-3 m mol/L on the test bacteria, whereas C albicans was insensitive. No effects were achieved with Saramin. The in vivo study revealed an antimicrobial activity of diminazine aceturate in mice at doses of 1.4 mg/100 gm daily for 10 days. The other antiprotozoal drugs were ineffective.
