A hair dye contained: C12-18 fatty alc. 10 g, 28% Na C12-14 alkyl ether sulfate 25 g and H2O 60 g, 0.005 mol aminopyridine, 0.005 mol arom. amine, NH4OH to pH 9.5, and H2O to 100 g. Before use, 100 g of the dye emulsion was mixed with 10 g 1% H2O2. The aminopyridines used were 3-amino-2-methylamino-6-methoxypyridine [90817-34-8], 3-amino-2-(2-hydroxyethyl)amino-6-methoxypyridine [90817-35-9], and 2,3-diamino-6-methoxypyridine [28020-38-4], and the arom. amines were p-phenylenediamine [106-50-3] and p-toluylenediamine [95-70-5]. The combinations colored gray hair blue-black, and the color was unchanged after storage at 45° for 7 days and were stable to irradn. with a Xe lamp at 5500-6500K.
