Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun., 122(2), 542-9 (English) 1984. CODEN: BBRCA9. ISSN: 0006-291X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) A novel neurotensin-like peptide, designated neuromedin N [92169-45-4] was isolated from porcine spinal cord using a bioassay for a stimulant effect on guinea pig ileum. By microsequencing, the amino acid sequence of the peptide was detd. to be Lys-Ile-Pro-Tyr-Ile-Leu, which is be quite homologous to the C-terminal sequence of neurotensin. This structure was confirmed by synthesis. Neuromedin N exhibits a contractile activity on guinea pig ileum and induces a hypotensive response in the rat similar to that with neurotensin. Neuromedin N may be a new neuromediator or hormone with a specific spectrum of biol. activity.
