- Growth and respiratory adaptation in Saccharomyces sake as affected by aromatic alcohols, particularly by 1-phenyl-1-propanol. Kojima, M.; Hatae, K.; Kurihara, Y.; Katohgi, Y. (Fac. Pharm. Sci., Fukuoka Univ., Fukuoka, Japan). Hakko Kogaku Kaishi, 55(5), 262-8 (Japanese) 1977. CODEN: HKOKDE. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) Section cross-reference(s): 6 Growth curves of S. sake Kyokai no. 7 showed that the addn. of each of 9 arom. alcs. to the medium contg. 2% glucose had no effect on the 1st log growth phase. Growth times of the 2nd log phase peculiar to the yeast, however, were delayed when compared with the parent yeast grown without the addn. of arom. alcs. Control yeast cells gave the max. QO2 value, and cells grown with the addn. of arom. alcs. were estd. to be smaller than the control. Cytochrome patterns showed only cytochrome c [9007-43-6] absorption and lacked b and a absorptions on cells grown with the addn. of .alpha.-phenethyl alc. [98-85-1] or 1-phenyl-1-propanol [93-54-9]. Cytochrome c content in cells grown with the addn. of arom. alc. was .apprx.50% of that of the control. Respiratory adaptation of anaerobically grown cells was inhibited by the addn. of 1-phenyl-1-propanol as well as .alpha.-phenethyl alc., and this inhibition resembled that of acriflavine [8048-52-0].
- Radiochemical sterilization of some pharmaceutical products
- Radiochemical sterilization of some pharmaceutical products. I. Vilcu, Rodica; Dogaru, Viorica; Daragiu, Elena; Tudusciuc, Gabriela (Inst. Politeh., Fac. Util. Ing. Proc. Chim., Bucharest, Rom.). Rev. Chim. (Bucharest), 35(10), 891-5 (Romanian) 1984. CODEN: RCBUAU. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) The effect of g-sterilization on the stability of vitamin A [68-26-8], vitamin D2 [50-14-6] from a com. prepn. also contg. vitamin A, vitamin A palmitate [79-81-2], and carbicol (phenylethylcarbinol) [93-54-9] in gelatin capsules were investigated. The radiation source was 60Co at 1400 Ci and the dose was 46.5 krad/h. The radiosensitivity of the compds. was investigated at 0-2 Mrad by organoleptic estn., quant. detn., thermal anal. (differential, dynamic calorimetry and DTA), and IR spectroscopy. The results show that vitamin A palmitate and carbicol are very sensitive to irradn. in an oil soln., whereas vitamin D2 is stable at 0-2 Mrad. At 0.5 Mrad a decrease of 1% was noted for vitamin A from the prepn. of vitamin A + D2 and 2% from the vitamin D palmitate, and 3% for carbicol. Although 0.5 Mrad is sufficient to sterilize these products, the method is not recommended since there is the possibility that degrdn. may continue with time due to mobility of radicals in the liq. phase, and indirect contribution of irradn. to degrdn.
