- Quantitative analysis of cigaret smoke condensate monophenols by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. Jeanty, G.; Masse, J.; Bercot, P.; Coq, F. (Fac. Sci. Exactes Nat., Univ. Perpignan, Fr.). Beitr. Tabakforsch. Int., 12(5), 245-50 (English) 1984. CODEN: BTAID3. ISSN: 0173-783X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) A rapid and quant. method for the detn. of cigaret smoke condensate monophenols using HPLC was developed. Total particulate matter was collected on cigaret filter tips and Cambridge filter pads. Phenolic compds. were extd. with a 1N NaOH soln. Five different brands of filter-tipped cigarets from the French market were analyzed. Their phenol [108-95-2], guaiacol [90-05-1], 3-methylphenol [108-39-4], 4-methylphenol [106-44-5], 2-methylphenol [95-48-7], and 3,4-dimethylphenol [95-65-8] levels were detd. in comparison with an internal std., o-chlorophenol. With the same method, the phenolic retention efficiency of different cigaret filter tips was compared.

- Occurrence of phenolic compounds in the dust of pig and hen houses. Hartung, J.; Rokicki, E. (Inst. Tierhyg., Tieraerztl. Hochsch. Hannover, Hannover, Fed. Rep. Ger.). Zentralbl. Bakteriol., Mikrobiol. Hyg., Abt. 1, Orig. B, 179(5), 431-9 (German) 1984. CODEN: ZAOMDC. ISSN: 0174-3015. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 59 (Air Pollution and Industrial Hygiene) PhOH [108-95-2], p-cresol [106-44-5], indole [120-72-9], skatole [83-34-1], and p-ethylphenol [123-07-9] were found in EtOH-exts. of pptd. dust of 2 pig houses and the 1st 4 compds. as well as 2,6-dimethylphenol [576-26-1] and 3,4-dimethylphenol [95-65-8] were found in exts. of henhouse dust. PhOH dominated in the piglet house and 2,6-dimethylphenol in the henhouse. The odor intensity in the finishing pig house, where phenols amt. to 275 mg/g dust, was distinctly higher than the piglet house with phenols 111 mg/g. The possible effects of dustborne PhOH and skatole on the animals, esp. respiratory effects, are discussed.
