DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Only mild toxicol. changes were produced in rats administered trichlorotoluene (TCT) isomers [a,a,a- [98-07-7], a,2,6- [2014-83-7], or 2,3,6-TCT (I) [2077-46-5]] at dietary levels up to 500 ppm for 28 days. These included increased liver wts., serum biochem. disturbances, and morphol. changes in the liver, kidney, and thyroid gland. I was the only isomer which produced hepatomegaly; a,2,6-TCT, on the other hand, increased hepatic microsomal aminopyrine N-demethylase [9037-69-8] activities in male rats and produced slightly more severe renal damage. Significant increases in serum sorbitol dehydrogenase [9028-21-1] activity were noted in the male rats fed a,a,a-TCT and I. Only a,a,a-TCT produced elevated serum lactic dehydrogenase [9001-60-9] activities in male rats at the highest dose level. No detectable TCT residues in tissues due to exposure were obsd.
