Thus, a binder resin [26351-99-5] of glass transition temp. 20° was obtained by the copolymn. of acrylic acid 50, hydroxyethyl methacrylate 150, Me methacrylate 430, and Bu acrylate 370 parts, mixed 8:2 with a melamine resin, neutralized (80%) with Et3N, thinned with water to 10% solids, and electrophoretically coated at 30° on an anodized aluminum. Of the 3 catalysts studied, the II was most effective, as it was the strongest H+ donor and was compatible with I. High phenolysis rate and the optimum amt. of reacted PhOH [108-95-2] were obsd. in the presence of 4% II (based on PhOH). The condensation products were black, resinous materials, sol. in EtOH, Me2CO, and ethylene glycol.
