- The treatment of wastewaters polluted with methylphenylcarbinol and acetophenones. Balan, Maria; Dacin, Eugen; Manea, Maria (Rom.). Rev. Chim. (Bucharest), 28(7), 669-73 (Romanian) 1977. CODEN: RCBUAU. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 60 (Sewage and Wastes) Section cross-reference(s): 51 Methylphenylcarbinol [98-85-1], acetophenone [98-86-2] and styrene [100-42-5] were recovered (35-60%) from refinery wastewater by detonation for 2 h. The recovered compds. were recycled. The decanted waters were chem. treated with FeSO4 and FeCl3 to remove 39-68% of the remaining org. impurities. The effluent is then purified to ~98% by adsorption on active charcoal. Methylphenylcarbinol and acetophenone are also extd. from wastewaters, after decantation, by CCl4, toluene, or n-hexane with a yield of 71-96%.
