Influence of a difference in reactivity between primary and secondary hydroxyls on the gelation of polyol/polyacid systems
Influence of a difference in reactivity between primary and secondary hydroxyls on the gelation of polyol/polyacid systems. Durand, Dominique; Bruneau, Claude Marcel (Lab. Phys.-Chim. Macromol., Fac. Sci., Le Mans, Fr.). Makromol. Chem., 179(1), 147-57 (French) 1978. CODEN: MACEAK. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Using a new general formulation of Flory's gelation criterion, a crit. transition equation for polyol-polyacid condensation systems with OH groups of unequal reactivity is derived.. The reaction probabilities for various HO groups were formulated from kinetics calcns. The gelation equation showed that the inclusion of monomers with groups of unequal reactivity significantly increased the extent of reaction necessary to achieve gelation. The theor. forecasts were confirmed by an exptl. study of polyester systems in which glycerol [56-81-5] and trimethylolpropane [77-99-6] were condensed with adipic acid [124-04-9] and tricarballylic acid (I) [99-14-9] and pentaerythritol [115-77-5] and erythritol [149-32-6] were condensed with I.
Study of the gelation of polyol/polyacid/acid-alcohol systems
Study of the gelation of polyol/polyacid/acid-alcohol systems. Durand, D.; Bruneau, C. M. (Lab. Phys.-Chim. Macromol., Equipe Rech. Assoc. CNRS, Le Mans, Fr.). Eur. Polym. J., 13(6), 463-5 (French) 1977. CODEN: EUPJAG. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) A general gel equation involving monomer functionalities was applied to systems contg. trimethylolpropane [77-99-6] or pentaerythritol [115-77-5], tricarballylic acid [99-14-9], and 11-hydroxyundecanoic acid [3669-80-5]. The theor. predictions of gel point were in agreement with exptl. results allowing for systematic shift due mainly to intramol. reactions.
