DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 62 (Essential Oils and Cosmetics) Of 19 constituents in the title oil, geranyl acetate [105-87-3], a major constituent, and D3-carene [13466-78-9], a-terpinene [99-86-5], a-terpineol [98-55-5], and nerol [106-25-2] were not identified previously. The oil obtained from Shinshoga(fresh rhizome) consists mainly of 1,8-cineol [470-82-6], neral [106-26-3], geranial [141-27-5], geraniol [106-24-1], geranyl acetate, and zingiberene [495-60-3]. The oils from Taneshoga(seed, rhizome) and Oyashoga(a yr old rhizome), compared with that of Shinshoga, contain much less geraniol and geranyl acetate, and more neral and geranial.

On the basis of our recently detd. equil. const. of 3.4 ′ 10-11 cm3/mol at 298 K for the reactions NO2 + NO3 t N2O5, the following rate consts. (in units of 10-11 cm3/mol.-s) were obtained: myrcene, 1.1 ± 0.3; cis- and trans-ocimene, 2.4 ± 0.6; a-terpinene, 19.4 ± 4.7; g-terpinene, 3.1 ± 0.7; a-phellandrene, 9.1 ± 2.3. By use of these and our previous data for a- [80-56-8] and b-pinene [127-91-3], D3-carene [13466-78-9], and d-limonene [5989-27-5], NO2 radical rate consts. were estd. for a further series of monoterpenes and related orgs. It was shown that nighttime NO3 radical reactions for these and other monoterpenes can be dominant loss processes for these naturally emitted orgs. and (or) for NO3 radicals. In addn., rate const. for the reaction of NO2 with myrcene and cis- and trans-ocimene were also detd.
