Addn. of 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane to ethynylstannanes R3SnCYCH (R = Ph, Bu, Et) gave the corresponding (E)-R3SnCH:CHBR'2 together with minor amts. of the gem-product (BR'2 = 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-9-yl), which were converted in situ to Cu(I) derivs. by treatment with CuBr×SMe2 and coupled with iodonium tosylate [(R2CYC)I+Ph]OTs to give (E)-R3SnCH:CHCYCR2 (1a-h, R2 = Ph, tBu, iBu). The reaction is stereoselective and occurs with the retention of configuration. High regioselectivity for the formation of (E)-2-stannylvinylboranes (vs. 1-stannylvinylboranes) is obtained only if the R substituent is sufficiently bulky. .
