12604-58-9 Usage
Description
Ferrovanadium is an iron-vanadium alloy used to add vanadium to steel, with a composition of 50%-80% vanadium along with iron, carbon, and trace amounts of silicon, manganese, chromium, and nickel. It is a noncombustible solid with dark, odorless solid particles and has a melting range of 1482-1521°C.
Uses
Used in Steel Industry:
Ferrovanadium is used as an alloying element in steel production for enhancing the fineness of grain, toughness, and resistance to high temperature and torsion. It is added to engineering steels in amounts of 0.1-0.25% and to high-speed steels in amounts of 1-2.5% or higher.
Hazard
Moderate fire risk.
Health Hazard
Ferrovanadium dust is a mild
irritant of the eyes and respiratory tract.
Safety Profile
Can cause pulmonary
damage. Combustible when exposed to heat
or flame. See also VANADIUM and IRON.
Potential Exposure
Ferrovanadium is added to steel to
produce fineness of grain, toughness, torsion properties;
and resistance to high temperatures.
Incompatibilities
Incompatible with oxidizers (chlorates,
nitrates, peroxides, permanganates, perchlorates, chlorine,
bromine, fluorine, etc.); contact may cause fires or explo sions. Keep away from alkaline materials, strong bases,
strong acids, oxoacids, epoxides.
Waste Disposal
Disposal in a sanitary landfill.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 12604-58-9 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,2,6,0 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 12604-58:
(7*1)+(6*2)+(5*6)+(4*0)+(3*4)+(2*5)+(1*8)=79
79 % 10 = 9
So 12604-58-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
