BAPTA, TETRASODIUM SALT, also known as 1,2-bis(o-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid, tetrasodium salt, is a selective calcium chelator with a 105-fold greater affinity for Ca2+ than for Mg2+. It is a high-quality and sensitive compound used in various research fields, including calcium signaling studies, signal transduction, apoptotic cascades, and neuroscience research. BAPTA, TETRASODIUM SALT is a beige powder that exhibits a UV spectrum shift from 254 to 279 nm at pH >6.0 after complexing with Ca2+.

BAPTA, TETRASODIUM SALT is used as a Ca2+-indicator for fluorescence suppression by Ca2+. It is particularly useful for spectrophotometric monitoring of extracellular Ca2+ levels, especially transient phenomena, due to its insensitivity to pH.
