Description
Magnesium thiosulfate hexahydrate, also known as "hyposulfite," is a chemical compound with the molecular formula MgS2O3 and a molecular weight of 136.4352 g/mol. It is a colorless crystalline solid that forms when magnesium thiosulfate is dissolved in water and then evaporated at a low temperature. The hexahydrate form, MgS2O3·6H2O, loses water at 170°C to form the trihydrate and further heating to 420°C forms the anhydrate. Upon heating to 600°C, it produces magnesium sulfate, sulfur, and oxides of sulfur.
Uses
Used in Water Treatment:
Magnesium thiosulfate hexahydrate is used as an additive in the water treatment industry for the removal of ozone from water streams, such as drinking water or wastewater streams being treated with ozone. It is also used to scrub ozone from gaseous streams by contacting the gaseous stream with solid magnesium thiosulfate.
Used in Chlorine Removal:
Magnesium thiosulfate hexahydrate is used as a dechlorinating agent in the water treatment industry to remove chlorine gas from water streams by contacting the stream with a magnesium thiosulfate solution. It is also used in a method of scrubbing chlorine from gaseous streams by contacting the gas stream with solid magnesium thiosulfate.
Note: The provided materials do not mention any other specific applications of Magnesium thiosulfate hexahydrate in different industries. The uses listed above are based on the information provided in the materials.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 10124-53-5 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,0,1,2 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 10124-53:
(7*1)+(6*0)+(5*1)+(4*2)+(3*4)+(2*5)+(1*3)=45
45 % 10 = 5
So 10124-53-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
