1. Scandium Oxide is applied in optical coating, catalyst, electronic ceramics and laser industry. It is also used annually in making high-intensity discharge lamps. A high melting white solid used in high-temperature systems (for its resistance to heat and thermal shock), electronic ceramics, and glass composition. Suitable for vacuum deposition applications.

It absorbs carbon dioxide from the air.It has the MnO3 structure.The crystal structure of scandium oxide is Bixbyite , which is an FCC array of scandium atoms with oxygen occupying 44 of the tetrahedral sites.
