General Description

Lithium sulfide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Li2S. It is a white to yellowish crystalline powder that is insoluble in water. Lithium sulfide is used as a component in some battery electrolytes and as a precursor to other lithium-containing compounds. It is also used in the production of glass and ceramics. Lithium sulfide is a strong reducing agent and can react violently with water and air, releasing toxic and flammable hydrogen sulfide gas. It is considered an irritant to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system and should be handled with care in a well-ventilated area.
