Reaction of cobalt xanthates with certain phenylenediamine derivatives

Complexing of a series of cobalt(III) xanthates with N, N′-diphenyl-p-phenylendiamine and N-phenyl-N′-isopropyl-p-phenylendiamine were studied spectrophotometrically. The composition of complexes formed in solution, determined by the method of equilibrium shift and isomolar series, corresponds to stoichiometric coefficients equal to 1-3. Stability constants were calculated, and their dependence on a series of factors was discussed. The individuality of preparatively separated complexes was demonstrated by various physicochemical methods: elemental and X-ray analyses, thermogravimetry, IR and electron spectroscopy, measurement of magnetic susceptibility.
