The main reaction products in the reaction of the benzylglyoximate complexes of cobalt with perfluoroisopropyl iodide are 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-heptafluoro-2-(arylmethyl)propanes, which correspond to bimolecular homolytic substitution of the cobalt-containing group by the perfluoroisopropyl radical, and also benzyl iodides. The substitution rate increases with increase in the electron-donating characteristics of the substituent in the aromatic ring.In the case of the cobalt complex unsubstituted in the aromatic ring the diperfluoroalkylation product is formed in addition tothe monoalkylation product.
