The nucleophilic displacement of a methylsulfanyl group (SMe) at the C2-position on a pyrimidin-4-one scaffold was achieved after oxidation into a methylsulfonyl group (SO2Me) using dimethyldioxirane (DMDO), a powerful electrophilic oxygen atom transfer agent.
