Usage

General Description

Destomycin A is a naturally occurring antibiotic derived from Streptomyces lasaliensis that belongs to the aminoglycoside family. It is structurally similar to streptomycin and displays potent antibacterial activity against a wide range of Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria. Destomycin A works by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit and disrupting protein synthesis, ultimately leading to cell death in susceptible bacteria. It has been used in the treatment of various bacterial infections, particularly those caused by multi-drug resistant strains. However, its clinical use is limited due to its potential for nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity. Furthermore, the development of resistance to destomycin A has been reported, further challenging its therapeutic effectiveness. Nevertheless, destomycin A continues to be of interest for its unique mechanism of action and potential in combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
