Description

Biapenem Side Chain is a pharmaceutical raw material utilized in the production of Biapenem antibiotics. It is a crucial component in the synthesis of Biapenem (LJC 10627), a carbapenem antibiotic developed by the Japanese Lederle Company and American Cyanamid Company in 1989. This antibiotic is currently in the final stages of clinical trials in Japan, awaiting approval. The unique feature of Biapenem lies in its bicyclic triazole 1β-methyl carbapenem structure at the 2-position, which significantly enhances its permeability and effectiveness against various bacteria, including pseudomonas aeruginosa, anaerobic bacteria, drug-resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa, acinetobacter, and other bacteria.

Biapenem Side Chain is used as a key component in the production of Biapenem antibiotics for the following reasons:
1. It enhances the antibiotic's ability to inhibit the activity of pseudomonas aeruginosa and anaerobic bacteria, making it 2 to 4 times more effective than imipenem.
2. It increases the antibiotic's effectiveness against drug-resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa, making it 4 to 8 times more potent than Meropenem.
3. It provides a more effective impact on acinetobacter and anaerobic bacteria compared to ceftazidime.
Additionally, the presence of the side chain quaternary ammonium cation center is essential for affecting the permeability of the outer membrane, which contributes to the overall effectiveness of the antibiotic.
