A new P-(2,5-dimethyl-1,2,3-diazaphospholyl)iminophosphine 3 has been synthesized and fully characterized by analytical and spectroscopic methods. We found a new synthetic procedure that led easily to 3 from the corresponding aminochlorophosphine 2b, using trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate as a catalyst. The alternative thermal synthetic route is discussed in connection with the X-ray crystal structure of 2b.The ligand behavior of iminophosphine 3 towards Rh(I), Pt(II) and Pd(II) complexes is studied. We demonstrate that the three planar donor sites can participate in transition metal complexation : Pa (in the diazaphosphole ring) in the rhodium complex 8 (η1-Pa) ; Pb (in the phosphazene bond) in the platinum complexes 9 and 10 (η1-Pb) ; Pb in the mononuclear palladium complex 11 (η1-Pb) ; and Pb and Na (in the diazaphosphole ring) in the dinuclear complex 12 (η1-Pb, η1-Na). - Keywords: 1,2,3-diazaphospholes / P-functionalized iminophosphines / transition metal complexes / molecular structures
