Some antimony(III) derivatives of phthalanilic and maleanilic acids of the type [L]3Sb and [L]SbSCH2CH2S (where L=phthalanilate and maleanilate anions] have been synthesised by the reactions of antimony trichloride and 2-chloro-1, 3-dithia-2-stibacyclopentane, each, with phthalanilic and maleanilic acids in 1:3 and 1:1 molar ratios respectively in refluxing acetonitrile. Alternatively, these derivatives have also been synthesised by refluxing antimony trichloride and 2-chloro-1, 3-dithia-2-stibacyclopentane, each, with sodium phthalanilate and sodium maleanilate (prepared in situ by the reaction of sodium methoxide with phthalanilic and maleanilic acid in methanol) in 1:3 and 1:1 molar ratios respectively in methanol. These derivatives are characterised by elemental analysis, as well as IR and 1H NMR spectral studies.
