Several chromenone-based receptors have been prepared. Despite the self-association of these hosts in CDCl3 they are able to bind hydroxymethylfuranones with a Kass of around 1000 M-1. These compounds are able to accelerate the rate of the reaction of butenolide with pyrrolidine together with the increase of the selectivity.
