It is used (particularly as its ethyl ester, known as isoxadifen-ethyl, as a herbicide safener, especially in conjunction with the herbicides fenoxaprop-P-ethyl and iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium.

The compound provided by the invention has an excellent herbicide phytotoxicity relieving effect, especially when the compound is mixed with nicosulfuron, the nicosulfuron phytotoxicity of corn can be effectively relieved, and the relieving effect is even better than that of some commercial herbicide safeners sold in the market.
