23580-52-1 Usage

General Description

2,6-Dimethyl-3-ethylpyridine, also known as DEET, is a common active ingredient in insect repellents. It belongs to the class of chemicals known as pyridine derivatives, and is often used to repel mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, and other biting insects. DEET works by interfering with the insect’s ability to sense and locate a host, keeping them at bay. It is a highly effective and widely used insect repellent, with studies showing it to be safe for human use when applied in recommended concentrations and not ingested. DEET is available in various forms, such as lotions, sprays, and wipes, and is a staple for outdoor activities in areas where insect-borne diseases are a concern.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 23580-52-1 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 2,3,5,8 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 23580-52:
(7*2)+(6*3)+(5*5)+(4*8)+(3*0)+(2*5)+(1*2)=101
101 % 10 = 1
So 23580-52-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

An Improved Liquid-Phase Synthesis of Simle Alkylpyridines

Grayson, J. Ian,Dinkel, Rolf

, p. 2100 - 2110 (2007/10/02)

The synthesis of pyridines from mixtures of aldehydes or ketones and NH3 in the liquid phase has been reinvestigated, using continuous dosage of the carbonyl components to the reaction mixture. The main product from the reaction of acetaldehyde and formaldehyde is 3-methylpyridine (6), which is also the main product from the reaction of acrolein or a mixture of crotonaldehyde and formaldehyde under the same conditions. The reaction of other aldehydes with formaldehyde give 3,5-dialkylpyridines, e.g. 10, 16.Acetone reacts with either formaldehyde or acetaldehyde to give polysubstituted alkylpyridines.A mechanistic pathway is proposed which accounts for the formation of the observed products.
