Usage

General Description

4-mercaptobutane-1-sulphonic acid (MBS) is a colorless, water-soluble organic compound that belongs to the class of mercaptans. It is often used as a reducing agent in organic and analytical chemistry, particularly in the synthesis of gold nanoparticles. MBS is also employed as a component in the formulation of protein-based drug conjugates and in the electrochemical deposition of metal films. Additionally, it is utilized as a stabilizer for the enzyme horseradish peroxidase and as a protecting agent for thiol groups in peptides and proteins. MBS is valued for its ability to easily bind to metal ions and its compatibility with a wide range of experimental conditions.
