Description
Methylene violet (basic dye) is a red light purple powder that is soluble in water, resulting in a red light purple solution. It is also soluble in ethanol, producing a fluorescent orange-red solution. When exposed to strong sulfuric acid, it turns green and becomes blue to red light purple when diluted. The dye solution forms a deep red soluble precipitate when mixed with sodium hydroxide.
Uses
Used in Textile Industry:
Methylene violet (basic dye) is used as a dye for cotton cloth, tannins mordant dyeing, silk, leather, and paper color. It has a light fastness rating of B, perspiration fastness rating of 1, ironing fastness rating of 1-2, soaping rating of 2-3, and fading and staining ratings of 1.
