Usage

Description

Opopanax oil is a yellow to greenish-yellow liquid obtained by steam distillation of the crude resin from Commiphora erythraea Engl. var. glabrescens Engl. or closely related species. It has an intense, warm, balsamic odor and tends to resinify on exposure to air. The oil is derived from the oleo-gum-resin exudate of the tree, which is native to Somaliland and has a fresh, balsamic odor reminiscent of myrrh.

Uses

Used in Perfumery:
Opopanax oil is used as a fragrance ingredient in perfume compositions with oriental characteristics, adding a warm, sweet, and balsamic scent to the blend.
Used in Fixatives:
Opopanax resinoid, prepared by solvent extraction, is used for its fixative properties in perfumery, helping to prolong the longevity of the fragrance on the skin.

Essential oil composition

Its main constituents include bisabolene (C15H24) and a mixture of alcohols.
