clopidogrel, sold under the trade name plavix, is a by mouth,thienopyridine-class antiplatelet agent used to inhibit blood clots incoronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, and to prevent heart attack and stroke.


mechanism of action:

the drug works by irreversibly inhibiting a receptor called p2y12, anadenosine diphosphate (adp) chemoreceptor on platelet cell membranes. adverse effects include bleeding and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.
