sec-Butylamine Specification

The IUPAC name of sec-Butylamine is butan-2-amine. With the CAS registry number 13952-84-6, it is also named as 1-Methylpropanamine. The product's classification codes are Agricultural Chemical; Drug / Therapeutic Agent; Fungicide, Bactericide, Wood Preservative; Out-Dated Pesticide, and the other registry number is 33966-50-6. Besides, it is a colourless liquid with an amine odour, which should be stored in a closed, dark, ventilated and dry place. It is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids. In addition, its molecular formula is C4H11N and molecular weight is 73.14.

Preparation of sec-Butylamine: this chemical can be prepared by the catalytic hydrogenation of Methyl ethyl ketone and NH3.
CH3CH2COCH3+NH3[H2]→CH3CH2CH(NH2)CH3+H2O
This reaction is catalyzed by Ni-Cr-HPO3 at temperature of 115 °C. The yield is 99%.

Uses of sec-Butylamine: this chemical can be used as antistaling agent and fumigant. It is also used as an intermediate for the production of pesticides, medicine and siloxane. Additionally, it can be used as an additive for polymer and rubber.

Please keep container in a well-ventilated place away from sources of ignition.
