Preparation of 4-Benzyloxyphenol: It can be obtained by chloromethyl-benzene and benzene-1,4-diol. This reaction needs reagent K₂CO₃ and solvent dimethylformamide at ambient temperature. The reaction time is 18 hours. The yield is 63%.

Uses of 4-Benzyloxyphenol: It is used as antioxidant in the rubber industry and as pharmaceutical intermediate. It also can react with methanol to get 4-benzyloxy-4-methoxycyclohexa-2,5-dienone. This reaction needs reagent PhI(OAc)₂ and solvent methanol at temperature of 20 °C. The reaction time is 40 min. The yield is 92%.
