Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by benzaldehyde, malononitrile at the temperature of 20 °C. This reaction will need reagent natural calcium phosphate and solvent methanol with the reaction time of 30 min. It's a reaction of knoevenagel condensation. The yield is about 98%.

    

Uses of Benzylidenemalononitrile: it can be used to produce benzyl-malononitrile by heating. It will need reagent 2-phenylthiazoline and solvent ethanol with the reaction time of 5 hours. This reaction will also need catalyst AlCl3. The yield is about 98%.
