1,3-Propane diisothiocyanate is used as a reagent for the synthesis of thioureido derivatives of 2-amino-2-deoxy-D-glucose. These derivatives serve as N-acetyl-β-D-hexosaminidase inhibitors, which are important in the development of drugs targeting lysosomal storage disorders such as Gaucher's disease, Tay-Sachs disease, and Sandhoff disease. The inhibition of N-acetyl-β-D-hexosaminidase enzyme activity helps in reducing the accumulation of glycosphingolipids in lysosomes, thereby alleviating the symptoms of these disorders.
