An 1-[2-(phenylmethyl)phenyl]piperazine of the formula (I), STR1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, wherein R1 is hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl or halogen, R2 is hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl, halogen or C1-4 alkoxy and R3 is hydrogen or methyl. such compounds are useful as antidepressive agents.
