The invention relates to a process for dyeing keratinous fibres, which consists in applying to these fibres a composition containing, in a suitable medium for dyeing, at least one coupler of formula: STR1 where R1 denotes hydrogen or alkyl, R2 and R3 denote hydrogen, alkyl, COOR' where R' is alkyl or hydrogen, at least one of the groups R2 and R3 denoting hydrogen, R4 denotes hydrogen, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, polyhydroxyalkyl or aminoalkyl, Z1 and Z2 denote hydrogen, alkyl, hydroxyl, halogen, alkoxy, at least one of the groups Z1 and Z2 is other than hydrogen at least one oxidation dye precursor, at least one oxidizing agent, the pH of the composition applied to the fibres being higher than 7.

The invention relates to a process for dyeing keratinous fibres, comprising the simultaneous or sequential application of a composition (A) containing a compound of formula (I): STR1 in which: R1 denotes hydrogen, alkyl, acetyl, benzoyl, phenyl or C1 -C4 carboxyalyl (sic); R2 and R3 denote hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxyalkyl, amino, halogen, nitro, alkylphenyl, phenyl, alkylamino, hydroxyalkylamino; and a composition (B) containing at least one compound of formula (II): STR2 in which: R4 and R6 denote hydrogen, alkyl; R5 denotes hydrogen, alkyl, COOR' where R' is hydrogen or alkyl; Z1 represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or hydroxyl; Z2 represents hydrogen or alkyl or a compound of formula (III): STR3 in which: R7 and R8 denote hydrogen or alkyl; X1 and X2 represent hydrogen or an NH2 radical; R9 denotes hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy; as well as the compositions used.

Method for dyeing keratinous fibres, in particular human keratinous fibres, such as hair, characterized in that a composition (A) containing, in a medium appropriate for dyeing, at least one aminoindole corresponding to the formula: STR1 in which: R1 and R3, independently of one another, represent a hydrogen atom or a C1 -C4 alkyl group; R2 denotes hydrogen or a C1 -C4 alkyl group or COOR', R' being a hydrogen atom or a C1 -C4 alkyl group; R4 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1 -C4 alkyl, C1 -C4 hydroxyalkyl or C2 -C4 polyhydroxyalkyl group; Z1 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C1 -C4 alkyl group or OR; R being a hydrogen atom or a C1 -C4 alkyl group; and Z2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1 -C4 alkyl group; and its salts is applied to said fibres, the colour being developed with the aid of an oxidizing system.
