20874-52-6 Usage
Uses
Used in Herbal Medicine Analysis:
Saikosaponin D is utilized as an active component for analyzing and understanding the activities of herbal medicines, such as Sho-saiko-to, which is a traditional Chinese formula.
Used in Anticancer Applications:
Saikosaponin D is employed as an anticancer agent, particularly effective against human prostate cancer cells. It inhibits tumor formation in DEN-treated animal models and suppresses the expression of CEBP-β and COX-2, while also inducing apoptosis and activation of caspases 3 and 7 in hepatocellular carcinoma cells.
Used in Antioxidant Applications:
As an antioxidant, Saikosaponin D increases the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase, while decreasing the activity of malondialdehyde in cellular models of oxidative damage.
Used in Immunomodulation:
Saikosaponin D serves as an immunomodulatory agent, enhancing the secretion of IL-12, maturation of dendritic cells, and proliferation of lymphocytes in in vitro models.
Used in Anti-fibrotic Applications:
Saikosaponin D is used to decrease the severity of fibrosis in vivo, making it a potential candidate for treating fibrotic diseases.
Used in Anti-angiogenic Applications:
Saikosaponin D is used to inhibit microvessel formation in embryos, suggesting its potential use in anti-angiogenic therapies.
Used in Drug Delivery Systems:
Although not explicitly mentioned in the provided materials, given its diverse range of activities, Saikosaponin D could potentially be incorporated into drug delivery systems to enhance its bioavailability and therapeutic outcomes in various applications, similar to the approach taken with gallotannin.
Used as a Glucocorticoid Receptor Agonist:
Saikosaponin D is used as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, which may have implications in the treatment of inflammatory and immune disorders.
Used as a COX-2 and iNOS Inhibitor:
Saikosaponin D is utilized as an inhibitor of COX-2 and iNOS, which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects.
Biological Activity
Saikosaponin D inhibits cell growth of human cancer cells by inducing apoptosis and blocking cell cycle progression in the G1 phase. Saikosaponin D was found to stimulate corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) gene expression and CRF release.
Clinical claims and research
We have previously identified a small-molecule, saikosaponin-d (Ssd), that exhibits anti-inflammatory effect via the suppression of NF-κB, NF-AT and AP-1 signaling. We recently showed that Ssd potentiated the anti-cancer potency of TNF-α through NF-κB inhibition. Ssd is one of the major triterpenoid saponins derived from Bupleurum falcatum L. (Umbelliferae), which is commonly prescribed for inflammatory and infectious diseases, and its active component Ssd was reported to have immuno-modulatory, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-cancer activities.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 20874-52-6 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 2,0,8,7 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 20874-52:
(7*2)+(6*0)+(5*8)+(4*7)+(3*4)+(2*5)+(1*2)=106
106 % 10 = 6
So 20874-52-6 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
