- Synthesis and antimicrobial characterization of novel l-lysine gemini surfactants pended with reactive groups
-
A series of novel quaternary ammonium gemini surfactants of l-lysine containing ester group were synthesized with high yield rate. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of these gemini surfactants were evaluated by quantifying the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC). The results indicated that the quaternary ammonium gemini surfactants exhibited improved activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as fungi. The pended ester group provides a reactive site for incorporating the surfactant into polymers, thus leading to the polymers with high antimicrobial efficiency.

- Synthesis and antibacterial activity of novel amido-amine-based cationic gemini surfactants
-
A series of novel cationic gemini surfactants were synthesized from corresponding amido-amines in a single step reaction. The amido-amines were obtained from long chain carboxylic acids and 3-N,N-dimethylamino-1-propyl-amine with excellent isolated yield (up to 95 %). All the synthesized quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) were further investigated for surface active properties. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) and the effectiveness of surface tension reduction were determined. The surface tension measurements of newly synthesized gemini surfactants showed good water solubility, and low CMC values, had great efficiency in lowering the surface tension and a strong adsorption at the air/water interface than the corresponding monomeric surfactants. Further, the antibacterial activity of the synthesized QACs against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria was also investigated.

- Amidoamine Gemini surfactants based dimethylamino propyl amine: Preparation, characterization and evaluation as biocide
-
The chemical structures of three prepared amidoamine Gemini surfactant were confirmed using FTIR and 1HNMR spectroscopic methods. The synthetic routes passed through two steps, the first one is the formation of the amide and the second one is the quaternization of the prepared amide with dibromo propane. The surface and thermodynamic parameters were determined from surface tension and conductivity measurements. The obtained critical micelle concentrations from both techniques are similar. The values of CMC were found to depend on both solution temperature and hydrophobic character. The change in free energy of micellization and adsorption showed a tendency of synthesized Gemini surfactants to adsorb at the interface first then forming micelle in the bulk. The prepared Gemini surfactants act as good antibiotic against some tested bacteria and fungi.

- Degradable Gemini quaternary ammonium salt containing functional group and preparation method of degradable Gemini quaternary ammonium salt
-
The invention provides a degradable Gemini quaternary ammonium salt containing a functional group. The structural formula of the degradable Gemini quaternary ammonium salt is shown in the description, wherein R is long-chain alkyl of C8-C16; X is Cl or Br; and Y is the quaternary ammonium salt synthesized in the preparation method. The reaction conditions are mild in the esterification or amide condensation process, the yield does not need to be increased by excessively adding one substrate, and a high-purity product can be prepared only by washing and concentrating in the purification process. Due to introduction of easily degradable ester bonds or amide bonds, the quaternary ammonium salt can be easily degraded after being discharged into natural water after being used, degraded substances do not have antibacterial performance, generation of drug-resistant bacteria is not facilitated, and the quaternary ammonium salt is an environment-friendly novel quaternary ammonium salt.

- Continuous Method For Producing Fatty Acid Amides
-
The invention relates to a continuous method for producing fatty acid amides, according to which at least one fatty acid of formula (I), [in-line-formulae]R3—COOH??(I)[/in-line-formulae] wherein R3 is an optionally substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, is reacted with at least one amine of formula (II), [in-line-formulae]HNR1R2??(II)[/in-line-formulae] wherein R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical comprising between 1 and 100 C atoms, to form an ammonium salt, and said ammonium salt is then reacted to form a fatty acid amide, under microwave irradiation in a reaction pipe, the longitudinal axis of the pipe being oriented in the direction of propagation of the microwaves of a monomode microwave applicator.

- Dimer poly-quaternary compounds
-
The present invention relates to a novel class of polymeric compounds having specific quaternized amine based upon a dimer acid reacted with an dimethyl amino propyl amine to make an amido amine, which is subsequently reacted to make a polymeric quaternary compound. Dimer acid is a C-36 diacid having a cyclic structure and two amine groups that allow for the synthesis of a high molecular weight cationic compound which is extremely substantitive to human skin and are well tolerated by human tissue making them suitable for use preparation of barrier products for personal care applications.
