This halogenated nitrile is a valuable intermediate in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other specialty chemicals. 3-Iodopropanenitrile is produced through the reaction of acrylonitrile with iodine and a suitable catalyst, such as a copper(I) or silver(I) salt.
