The Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling ethoxycarbonylation of aryl boronic acids with N-aryl-α-iminoesters affords aryl carboxylic esters via carbonyl-imino σ bond cleavage. This unprecedented mode of reaction allows regioselective installation of the ethoxycarbonyl group into target molecules. Mechanism studies have revealed that an unusual 1,2-aryl shift process is involved in the transformation. The Royal Society of Chemistry.

A new palladium catalyzed protocol for an atom-efficient cross-coupling reaction of triarylbismuths with aryl halides and triflates has been described. The palladium catalytic system with Cs2CO3 base was found to be very efficient in DMA solvent to furnish excellent yields of cross-coupled functionalized biaryls in short reaction times.

- Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of dry arenediazonium o-benzenedisulfonimides with aryltin compounds

The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between various arenediazonium o-benzenedisulfonimides and aryltin derivatives is described. The procedure is general, easy and gives pure biaryls in good yields (25 examples, average yield 79%). o-Benzenedisulfonimide can be recovered (>80%) and reused to prepare again the starting material. Aromatic compounds, accessible only by multistep procedures, can be synthesized easily by nucleophilic substitution of nitrite in nitrobenzenes, nitrobiphenyls, and nitronaphthalines.Thus, meta-substituted phenols 3, 4, and 7 are obtained from 1,3-dinitrobenzene (1) and meta-substituted nitrobenzenes 6, as well as 3,5-disubstituted phenols 10 and 5-substituted resorcinol derivatives 11 from 3,5-disubstituted nitrobenzenes 9.The unsymmetrically substituted nitrobiphenyls 13, 15, 17, 19, 23, 24, and 26 are also available by nitrite exchange from the corresponding easily accessible dinitrobiphenyls 16, 18, 20, 22, and 25.A nitrite exchange with nucleophiles is easily possible in the 1,5-disubstituted naphthalenes 29, 34, while in the case of the 1,8-disubstituted naphthalenes 31, 36 only the chloro derivative 36 undergoes this exchange under much stronger conditions in low yield.
