Disclosed are compounds of Formulas (I), (II), (III), (IV), and (V) and/or a salt thereof, wherein R1 is OH or OP(O)(OH)2, and X1, X2, X3, R2, R2a, Ra, Rb, and Rc are defined herein. Also disclosed are methods of using such compounds as selective agonists for G protein coupled receptor S1P1, and pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds. These compounds are useful in treating, preventing, or slowing the progression of diseases or disorders in a variety of therapeutic areas, such as autoimmune diseases and vascular disease.

- Relative Molecular Mass Information from Aliphatic Nitro Compounds: a Chemical Ionization Study

The mass spectra of a number of aliphatic nitro compounds have been studied using electron ionization (EI) and a variety of chemical ionization (CI) techniques in attempts to obtain relative molecular mass information.The use of positive ion ammonia chemical ionization techniques gave very satisfactory results, providing abundant + ions, not only from both primary and secondary nitro compounds, but also from the much more labile tertiary nitro compounds.However, the use of methane and isobutane positive ion CI or EI conditions resulted in facile fragmentation with little relative molecular mass information being made available.Negative ion CI using methane, isobutane or ammonia as moderating gases all gave abundant - ions with primary and secondary nitro compounds but at much reduced sensitivity.

A stereoselective synthesis of the all-trans-7-alkylperhydro-2-phenanthrenols 15a-f in 11 steps and 28 liquid crystalline esters 16 of 15a-f are described, additionally some further derivatives of 7-alkylperhydro-2-phenanthrenol.An X-ray structure analysis of ester 16ec is reported.
