PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel tyrosinase inhibitor that is low in skin irritation and skin sensitization, and suitable for external compositions for skin, and a skin-whitening agent. SOLUTION: The present invention provides a tyrosinase inhibitor, a skin-whitening agent, and an external composition for skin comprising the following component (A), or components (A) and (B) as an active ingredient: (A) 3-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl) propionic acid or salt thereof; and (B) ascorbic acid, a derivative thereof, or a salt thereof.
